Australian brewer Lion acquires UK-based Magic Rock Brewing Co.

Magic Rock was incidentally voted the world’s second-best new brewery by RateBeer.com in 2012.

The leading Australian beer & beverage company Lion, has reportedly acquired 100 percent of Magic Rock Brewing Company, the UK-based craft brewer, armed with the intent of becoming a key player in the craft beer market of the UK.

Apparently, Lion, which had purchased London-based craft brewer Fourpure Brewing Co., recognizes the UK craft beer market as the most exponentially growing market in the world. The company apparently was drawn toward Magic Rock, given its insistent pursuit of quality and authenticity.

For the record, Yorkshire-based Magic Rock sells its beer at UK’s supermarkets as well as pubs, in addition to exporting them to 25 countries. With strong support from Lion, the company looks forward to gain access to more growth opportunities outside of the United Kingdom.

As per a report by FoodBev, Lion had started its international unit in the year 2015 to release its Australian and New Zealand craft beer & ciders in new markets, as well as to speed up the growth of its wine business within North America. The report added that the latest move by Lion is pursuant to its recent acquisitions of Teza Iced Teas and Four Pillar Gin. The compnay’s wine business named Distinguished Vineyards & Wine Partners, had acquired Textbook Wines and Markham Vineyards last week.

Matt Tapper, MD, Lion Global Markets, was quoted saying that the company boasts of a proud history in the craft beer segment across New Zealand and Australia. Its long-term approach is targeted towards capital investment in the international markets with an aim to fulfil the demand for unique craft beer experiences.

He further elaborated that UK is one of the most thrilling places around the world in terms of experiencing craft beer and owing to its cultural resemblances to Australia and New Zealand, it is the perfect time for Lion to collaborate with Magic Rock and develop its premium brands and expand its footprint in the regional market.
