New Uzbek - Chinese chemical complex in Navoi begins operations

A new chemical complex, jointly developed by Uzbekistan and China, has recently been inaugurated in the Navoi region. The construction has been hailed as a significant event by leading chemical companies in Uzbekistan.

The chemical complex was inaugurated on Saturday, with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in attendance.

The president commented on the project, stating that it would change Uzbekistan’s reliance on PVC & caustic soda imports, in addition to creating an array of new jobs. He also stated that this would add considerable impetus to Uzbekistan’s economic development.

President Mirziyoyev has also expressed his anticipation for a continued alliance with the Chinese firms on future PVC projects.

The construction of this project was undertaken in partnership with Chinese enterprises HQC (Shanghai) Company and the China CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd.

Uzkimyosanoat Joint Stock Company’s Chairman Odil Temirov has reportedly been quoted as stating that the project is an innovative method of PVC (polyvinyl chloride), methanol and caustic soda production.

He further added that their Chinese collaborators displayed a great sense of responsibility regarding the work. He went on to express his gratitude to the commissioning team as well, who have been working at the complex for around three months along with local Uzbek specialists, operators and the technical and engineering teams. The teams cultivated a positive working relationship and achieved their goal of enhancing PVC production to accommodate growing demand for the product in the country.

Mr. Temirov has expressed his confidence that this partnership with the Chinese firms will bring about the development and launch of a second PVC production plant in a short period.

The production process was executed efficiently, with the companies working towards developing a more stabilized production process and eventually reaching its optimum designed capacity.

The chemical complex has an annual production capacity of nearly 300,000 tons of methanol, 75,000 tons of caustic soda and 100,000 tons of PVC. Additionally, the complex offers necessary raw materials to local businesses and has plans to export over $40 million worth of products per year.
