  • As per the steel ministry document, the two distinct committees established for ISP's integrated steel plants and the secondary steel sector comprises members of the steel industry, academia, associations, and senior retired government officials

The government has reportedly established two committees for resolving the challenges in the steel industry for achieving the target of 300 million tons of production capacity by the end of 2030.

According to the steel ministry document, in these two separate committees, the members of the steel industry, academia, associations, and senior retired government officials will be added for integrated steel plants along with the secondary steel sector.

Apparently, the Ministry of Steel established two advisory committees, one for the secondary sectors and one for the ISP.

It has further been revealed in the National Steel Policy 2017 that these committees will take notice of the difficulties experienced by the sector and discuss the methods and means to alleviate them to reach the planned crude steel production capacity of 300 MT by 2030–31.

Sources also report that several meetings between the advisory committee on the secondary and ISP sector have been held since their formation.

For the uninitiated, the ministry is engaging extensively with all the concerned stakeholders and has constantly been conducting consultations with them for developing and finalizing the contours of 'Vision 2047' for the sector.

According to the ministry, some of the leading industry candidates and associations attended a stakeholder meeting on this topic on August 25, 2022.

Apparently, as part of the meeting, all the interested parties have been asked for their opinions and suggestions on Vision 2047.
