Geotextiles Market Increasing the Growth Worldwide| Size, In-Depth Qualitative Insights, Explosive Growth Opportunity, Regional Analysis 2024

Touted to be of utmost significance for the civil engineers and various construction workers, geotextiles market are set to embellish the future of polymers and advanced materials sector in the upcoming years. These are synthetic permeable textile materials that are abundantly used to augment the soil parameters, offering the ability to filter, separate, protect, reinforce, and drain when used with soils.

Being tagged as the first ever textile developed in the history, geotextiles market are considered to be ideal materials for distinctive infrastructure works such as road construction, landfills, drainage structures, and others. When used in road construction, these materials pose the ability to fill gaps and voids between the roads to enhance the soil structure. Alongside, they make poor soil more beneficial for use while decreasing the process of wind and water erosion.

The use of geotextiles for road construction has been on radar for over three decades now and what has driven the exceptional use of these is the continuous damp damage done to the soil. In order to support the increasing use of these materials across various geographies, several central and state governments have been displaying intense keenness by introducing myriad initiatives. Citing an example for the same, the Indian Government on May 2020 gave a nod to use of coir geotextile for rural road construction. This move, according to the Union Minister for Road Transport and Medium Small Micro Enterprise- Nitin Gadkari, would provide a thrust to the coir industry along with substantially transforming the standard of living for the rural residents.

As per various reliable reports, as the country moves ahead in the deployment of these materials for road construction, it has been estimated that as per recent guidelines, 5 per cent, i.e. nearly 1.674 kilometer, of rural roads under PMGRSY would be constructed with coir geotextiles in seven states. The anticipated cost of construction has been put forth as Rs 70 crore. This step follows the government’s revelation of scheme for commercialization and promotion of jute geotextiles in the North-eastern states of the country, in 2015. It was stated that scheme encompassed an overall outlay of 4.27 billion.

With the increasing road construction globally, need for drainage system- which has been labeled as a vital consideration for any road design- has also been surging. This consequently invokes the need for geotextiles market in reinforcing the drainage, filtration, and erosion control systems. Function of these materials in such conditions is to act as a conduit for flow of liquids and gases. Drainage systems equipped with geotextile equipment ensure impressive filtration and drainage properties along with being highly efficient for filtration applications. Apparently, these parameters have helped the engineers and contractors to solve vivid issues associated to geotextile interests.

Above that, significant progressions in the field, over the years, have produced an upsurge to the geotextiles market across drainage applications. For instance, a three-year renovation of Loch Lomond club, situated in Southern Scotland is along the lines of completion, as claimed in December last year. Recognized as one of the largest renovation projects in the British golfing history, the project have been well equipped with drainage trenches that are lined with the geotextile membranes and filters to withhold the entrance of particles into the pipe. Once completed, the renovation is expected to enhance the entire drainage infrastructure at the course.

COVID-19 impact on geotextiles

Coronavirus, that has till date claimed millions of lives and disrupted various small and large scale businesses and global economy, is likely to negatively affect the geotextiles market. This can be ascribed to the slowdown in construction industry. The construction industry faced a massive jolt owing to the enforcement of stringent lockdown across various geographies of the world.

However, post stabilization of the global economy, it has been predicted the construction industry is set to record a promising growth in the near future, thus accelerating the growth of geotextiles market.
