Swell Energy Inc., an American home energy management and smart grid solutions provider, has reportedly announced the roll out its exclusive Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), GridAmp.

To offer advanced grid capabilities to utility companies, the improved DERMS platform combines Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), such as battery storage devices and solar, into virtual power plants (VPPs).

GridAmp will regulate several grid service operations with behind-the-meter solar-powered batteries through Swell's Home Battery Rewards program, a distributed VPP with 80-megawatt power being constructed in O'ahu, Maui as well as Hawai'i islands, as approved by Hawai'i Public Utilities Commission agreed and contracted with Hawaiian Electric.

Yoh Kawanami, co-director, Customer Energy Resources, Hawaiian Electric, stated that collaborating with Power Partner grid service providers like Swell is critical to accomplishing Hawaiian Electric's objective of mitigating the carbon footprint because of power generation by 70% by 2030, as well as attaining net zero emissions from energy production by 2045 or before.

GridAmp software from Swell is meant to increase revenue around different customer and utility value streams by employing optimization algorithms and machine learning models to guide and automate VPP and DER operations.

Suleman Khan, Swell’s CEO, stated that GridAmp co-optimizes the VPP experience for the utility and end-users, significantly boosting value as well as customer participation in renewable power generation, consumption, and transaction.

Khan further added that through its multiple technological collaborations and a full 'VPP in a Box' solution, Swell brings together homes, companies, utilities, and industry partners, to work toward the common goal of using VPPs to produce dependable, cost-effective, and flexible energy in a fair manner.

Solar-powered energy storage devices installed at Hawaiian Electric customers' homes and businesses will cohesively and independently supply consumer demands while also responding to the grid's dynamic needs. GridRevenueTM and additional GridSavings are received by Swell's VPP clients in exchange for adjusting their energy use for most of the day.
